About

Hi there! I’m Jacob Grandstaff.

I created this site to be a portfolio of my writing and a blog for when I can’t contain my thoughts—or don’t have a better outlet to express them at.

A little about me: I graduated with a BA in history from the University of North Alabama in 2015 and taught high school while working toward my Master’s. I moved to the Washington, DC area in 2017 for internships and to research my thesis, which I completed in 2019.

I currently live in Virginia, where among other pursuits I co-host The Right Take. I also write occasionally at Medium and maintain a history blog.

I enjoy traveling, hiking, and cycling—often on a whim—and watching baseball and hockey (Go Nats and Caps!).

I sometimes write about travel, personal goofy experiences, and economic and cultural trends. Most of my content, however, gears toward history and politics.

My political philosophy can be summed up with “unfettered free markets within the confines of the nation-state.”

Feel free to drop me a line in the comments if something I wrote rubbed you the right or wrong way.
